*CHF 25 per day for optional child care from 4.45pm to 6pm, additional 35 CHF per child above 6 years per week for public transportation

Day 1: Monday: Introduction of each other and our school mascot, “Little Mandarin.” The children will play group games to learn the key words and phrases of the day. “Little Mandarin” will tell the story of the birth of Nezha 哪吒. In the afternoon, the children make crafts and games around Nezha’s birth in the nearby park. The children will “step on the Wind and Fire Wheel”, “Dance to the Red Ribbon”, and finally “Beat the Monster” . 

Day 2: Tuesday: “Little Mandarin” will help the children learn more about Nezha 哪吒, his teacher Taiyi Zhenren 太乙真人, his best friend Ao Bing  敖丙and his parents, exploring their backgrounds and knowledge. The children will make a Yin-Yang Friendship bracelet-representing Nezha and Ao Bing’s connection. Together, they will visit the Rietberg Museum to find the gods that was part of the story around Nezha. The children will learn key words and sentences related to each main character.

Day 3: Wednesday: “Little Mandarin” and the children will explore Nezha’s struggles of trying to fit in. Nezha struggles to be accepted and understood by the villagers. The children will make emotion masks, where they draw or paint facial expressions reflecting different emotions Nezha might have felt (anger, sadness, confusion). The children will also learn key words and sentences related to the these emotions.

Day 4: Thursday: “Little Mandarin” and the children will learn the story of the “Battle with the Dragon King (哪吒闹海)”. They will create a lotus flower craft (symbolizing Nezah’s Rebirth from a lotus). The children will do experiments related to water and oil, creating a swirling “Chaos Pearl”. The children will also learn key words and sentences related to the day’s topic.

Day 5: Friday: “Little Mandarin” and the children will explore the story of the “Nezha’s Rebirth” (哪吒重生). Children draw themselves as heroes, incorporating qualities they admire about Nezha: bravery, resilience, and strength. The children will undergo a demon Child’s Training” – fun agility and strength exercises (jumping, spinning, balancing). The children will also learn key words and sentences related to the training and those qualities.

Highlights of the LittleMandarin Chinese Summer Camp:

  • Each day is structured in such a way that your child will improve their skills in speaking, writing, reading and listening Chinese and get a better understanding of the Chinese culture.
  • The program is mostly conducted in Chinese. Your child will learn Chinese in an immersive environment. (For non-native speackers, our teachers also understand and will conduct story telling in German/English.)
  • Meeting friends who are also learning and speaking Chinese and who your child can meet again after the camp
  • Lunch and afternoon snack included; your child only need to bring a morning snack.
  • Drop off & pick up at 3 locations: Thalwil/Küsnacht or Zurich HB (Landesmuseum)
  • *Pick up time possible until 6pm (service depends on the number of children) or at 4.45pm at the drop-off location
  • Your child can either participate the whole week or you can choose two (consecutive) days
