Thanks a lot for the 30 families who came to our event! We really enjoyed the afternoon with you! Below is the description of the event and some impressions from it.
Qingming Festival 清明节 is a Chinese custom celebrated worldwide by people of many Asian cultures. It is an annual event to remember and honor ancestors and to celebrate the warming weather. This festival has a history of more than 2500 years. Qingming indicates the coming of late spring, thus the best for plowing and growing time. It is therefore also a celebration of life, beauty and the season of renewal. As part of the Qingming Festival, families will picnic outside, fly kites, take a walk or play tug of war. During the Qingming Festival, people eat Qingtuan 青团 – a chinese pastry filled with sweet red or black bean paste.
We are going to celebrate the Qingming Festival with all interested families. The following activities are going to take place:
- Storytelling of customs around the Qingming Festival (Chinese, German, English)
- Crafting of colorful and creative kites – in case of good weather flying kites together
- Other hand crafts and activities around the Qingming Festival
- “Making” Qingtuan and tasting of Qingtuan (a traditional pastry for Qingming festival)
- Parent/child Tug of war
