We had such a joyful celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival! Almost 30 families participated in our organized activities, such as story telling, hand crafts, zongzi cooking and different group games. We learned several Chinese songs with the kids together, enjoyed a live performance of pipa (an ancient Chinese music instrument) and some of us even rowed the dragon boat on the Zurich lake.
It is almost dragon boat festival 端午节 (Duan Wu Jie) again! It is a festival which has been celebrated for 2’000 years in China and some important Asian countries. It is usually on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. Like last year, we will celebrate the dragon boat festival with families on Sunday, 18th June 2023 in Meilen. The following fun and exciting activities will take place:
- Storytelling and quiz on the origins and customs around the Dragon boat festival (Chinese, German and English)
- Learn the Dragon boat festival song and dance with a short live performance
- Craft painted fans and Chinese knots
- Learn to make 粽子 Zongzi, Chinese rice dumpling eaten during the Dragon Boat festival
- Handcraft colorful cardboard box dragon boat and (weather permitting) dragon boat relay race
- Introduction to a dragon boat and how it is steered
(From 5pm to 6pm and optional: Paddling in a real dragon boat on the Zurich lake. Please note that the extra cost of CHF 30 per family is paid directly to the dragon boat club, children must be at least 5 years old and a minimum registration of 15 is families required)
