西游记 Journey to the West

An event of the LittleMandarin Storytelling Club

If you think Superman or Spiderman has been around a long time, think about Monkey. Monkey stars in “The Journey to the West”, an epic comic fantasy from the sixteenth century.

The Birth of the Monkey King – A Superhero Tale of China

Generations of Chinese children have grown up with the Monkey King, a curious monkey full of mischief and magical power. He has been China’s favorite superhero for at least five centuries. He is amazingly strong, he can fly, and he has a few tricks those other superheroes never heard of. And he is always ready to do battle with demons, dragons—sometimes even the gods.

Join the Monkey King on his adventures during this one hour summer program and learn a few Chinese words along the way. Furthermore, your children will play a game designed to enact and repeat the vocabularies taught and finally hand craft the mask of the Monkey King.

The language used will be Mandarin Chinese, German and English. No prior Chinese knowledge is required.
